If there was ever a month to be excessive, this October seems to already be setting the stage for some fantastic events, some planned well in advance, and some ad hoc (so our apologies if some of these catch you off guard, and by surprise) admittedly we just could not turn down an expert in Barolo, a winery owner from Sonoma, our first Pahlmeyer + Wayfarer soiree or the Chardonnay party. Autumn is in the air, the winds are blowing and residents eagerly await the cooling breezes Fall carries here into South Florida so lets get back to it. Lets learn while drink, try before a buy, and understand the wines, their provenance, and how they could fit your next meal or into your cellar.
Below are some October events worth attending, so bring a date, a loved one, or come solo and meet some wine drinkers like yourself:

As the Wine Wave team, we couldn't be more excited to bring so many events to the community this month, and of course as friends to the shop you always get your tasting fee back when you purchase the wines featured each night. We exist as your local bottle shop to introduce you to new favorites and old friends with new friends and familiar faces sitting beside you, drinking, tasting, learning and exploring. We hope you join us for any of the above evenings mentioned above, and we are always welcome to suggestions of producers and themes you'd like to see.
"Things just get better and better at PAHLMEYER"
Robert Parker Jr. of the Wine Advocate
That's one hell of statement for a man who has single handedly shaped the California wine market with his palate and his prose. Just within these four walls, we have championed the Pahlmeyer wines for the four short years we've been in business and so when we found out advanced sommelier Holly Kapica who is a Pahlmeyer manager was going to be in town, we quickly picked-out a few favorites (nine total wines) and wanted to spread the good word on an unforgettable night of Napa and Sonoma.

- Next generation of leadership has arrived... Cleo Pahlmeyer -
"Balance is everything: power and finesse in perfect equilibrium" is what Cleo believes separates her wines from all the others. Perhaps NOT buying bulk juice and slapping a private label on the bottle is why this winery separates itself for the corporate culture that has ruined some brand names in the Valley, a region riddled with venture capitalist and corporate greed. You see esquire Jayson Pahlmeyer wanted to keep this winery in the family but these type of succession plans are never easy when there are multiple children and the risk of isolating loyal members, evaporating cash flow, and losing the family identity can be a sensitive topic when thinking about retirement while protecting a new legacy.

- the best wines are made in the vineyard -
Did You Know?: The 1991 Pahlmeyer Chardonnay was featured in the movie Disclosure, staring Michael Douglas and Demi Moore, scandal, sexual harassment, improper employee employer relations, and at the time this featured white wine was only $24 a bottle, and only 400 cases were produced. Essentially priceless now, this winery was brought to the attention of a Hollywood screenwriter who had heard about the white. Without knowing the extent it would get featured in any major motion picture, Jayson Pahlmeyer sent two cases of this wine and it took off!

- Pahlmeyer's "super second" label, Jayson -
We have a lot to learn and drink this month, and as you can see there's wines open for all styles of drinkers whether you like Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux-inspired red blends, or Italy's classic Piedmont region with our personal favorites coming from the land of truffles, Nebbiolo, and Nutella (it's true) - we know you'll find something to share this coming winter with family and guests who visit, from various price points and producers.

"All I could think about was creating my own California Mouton" - Jayson Pahlmeyer
So here's how it is going to work for Pahlmeyer, like a boxing match or a hockey game, we're doing three rounds (of three wines in each) in a comparison study on Pahlmeyer, the Jayson by Pahlmeyer line*, and the Wayfarer Vineyards from Sonoma. The evening is going to be intimate and limited to the Loft for the first fourteen people RSVP by calling (561) 276-2076, and the event is $85 per person. Again, not worry if you cannot attend next Wednesday, because tomorrow we have back-to-back Wednesday tastings, so hopefully you embrace Wednesday nights as being almost through the work week, and a sexy opportunity to imbibe on great wine.
*Jayson by Pahlmeyer is the second label by Pahlmeyer crafted to honor its namesake "with wines that express Jayson's unquenchable thirst excellence and artisanal winemaking."
